Maryam Heydarkhani

Maryam Heydarkhani is an architect and architectural historian specializing in the cultural and social dimensions of nineteenth-century Iranian architecture. Her research focuses on madrasas, examining their integration with spaces like mosques and their evolving roles in shaping religious, social, and political life. Maryam earned her PhD in Architecture from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, where she also completed her master’s degree in Iranian Architectural Studies. She is currently preparing her doctoral research for publication as a book, exemplifying her interdisciplinary approach and contributing to broader discussions on Iranian cultural heritage. Maryam is now a Barakat Postdoctoral Fellow at the Khalili Research Centre in Oxford, where she continues her research on Iranian architectural history and its broader cultural implications. As part of her academic journey, Maryam has also been a visiting scholar at the University of Vienna and the University of Calgary, experiences that have further enriched her interdisciplinary perspective. In addition to her academic work, Maryam has extensive experience as a practicing architect, focusing on the restoration and renovation of historical buildings and museums.
