Fateh Azzam

 

Fateh Azzam is Director of the Asfari Institute for Civil Society at the American University of Beirut. Previously, he was Regional Representative for the Middle East of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (2006-2012), Director of the Forced Migration and Refugee Studies Program at the American University in Cairo (2003-2006); Program Officer for Human Rights at the Ford Foundation’s Offices in Lagos and Cairo (1996-2003); and Director of the Palestinian human rights organization Al-Haq (1987-1995). He led the process of establishing the Arab Human Rights Fund (www.ahrfund.org), has served on the Boards of several Palestinian, Arab, and international human rights organizations, and is currently a member of the Independent Commission for Human Rights, the Palestinian national human rights institution. Mr. Azzam holds an LLM in International Human Rights Law from the University of Essex, and has authored numerous articles and studies on human rights which appeared in Human Rights QuarterlyArab Journal for Human Rights, Riwaq ‘Arabi, Al-Mustaqbal, Nordic Journal of International Law, and Sur International Journal on Human Rights.
