In many ways, this is volume two of the series. The book focuses on the European port of Galata, tracing the layered history of Galata from the Latin conquest to the Ottoman conquest, and the impact of the latter on the society and economy of Galata.
Fariba Zarinebaf
Fariba Zarinebaf is Professor of History at the University of California-Riverside. She obtained her PhD from the University of Chicago and is the author of Crime and Punishment in Istanbul, 1700-1800, and author with J.L. Davis and J. Bennett of An Historical and Economic Geography of Ottoman Greece: Southwest Morea in the Eighteenth Century. She also co-authored and co-edited a book with Thierry Zarcone entitled, Les Iraniens d’Istanbul. She is a recipient of the Fulbright scholarship.
