Paul Aarts and Francesco Cavatorta
Paul Aarts is Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the Department of Political Science, University of Amsterdam. He is the co-author (with Gerd Nonnemann) of Saudi Arabia in the Balance: Political Economy, Society, Foreign Affairs (Hurst and New York University Press, 2005/2006; also available in Arabic with the Center for Arab Unity Studies, Beirut, 2012) and co-editor of From Resilience to Revolt. Making Sense of the Arab Spring (University of Amsterdam/WODC, 2012).
Francesco Cavatorta is senior lecturer in the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University. He is the author of Civil Society Activism under Authoritarian Rule: A Comparative Perspective (Routledge, 2012), Civil Society and Democratization in the Arab World (co-authored with Vincent Durac, Routledge, 2010), and The International Dimension of the Failed Algerian Transition: Democracy Betrayed? (Manchester University Press, 2009).
