Mohamed Elmeshad is an Egyptian researcher and journalist. He is currently working on his PhD at SOAS where he is looking into the political economy of the media with a focus on Egypt in the post-privatization era. As a journalist, he covered a variety of social and economic issues including, the status of the informal urban areas, political parties, and security. In both his academic research and journalism, he has taken an interest in issues such as industrialization, privatization, state planning/budgeting, and other areas of political economy in Egypt and across the MENA region.
